Be aware of happenings.

Well, there are so many things people do just for the money. If you are a traveller, there is no harm in reading the email below for to be forewarned is to be forearmed. Well, knowledge helps prevent undesirable things from happening. Enjoy yourself but just be aware of what can possibly happen. Just keep your senses.

Judge for yourself the truth of the following stories. So, read on.......

**********************
This story is said to be True,
But be warned it is...
NOT NICE!

This is a true story, it has been confirmed, the Medical Centre phone
number at the end of this story is real.

This guy went out on a Saturday
night a few weeks ago to a party. He was having a good time and had a
couple of beers and some girls seemed to like him and one invited him to go to
another party. He quickly agreed and decided to go along with her. She
took him to a party in some apartment and they continued to drink, and
even got involved with some unknown drug.
The next thing he knew, he woke up completely naked in a bathtub filled
with ice. He was still feeling the effects of the drugs, but looked
around to see he was alone.
He looked down at his chest, which had 'CALL 000 or YOU'LL DIE' written
on it with lipstick. He saw a phone was on a stand next to the tub so he
picked it up and dialled. He explained to the EMS operator what the
situation was and that he didn't know where he was, what he took, or why
he was really calling. She advised him to get out of the tub. He did,
and he appeared normal, so she told him to check his back. He did. He
found two nine inch slits on his lower back. She told him to get back into
the tub immediately, and they sent a rescue team over. Apparently,
after being examined, he found out more of what had happened. His
kidneys were stolen. They were worth $10,000 each on the black market.
Several guesses are in order: The people involved had to be at least
medical students and it was not just recreational drugs he was given.
Regardless, he is currently in the hospital on a life support, awaiting
a spare kidney. The University of Sydney in conjunction with the Royal
Prince Alfred hospital is conducting tissue research to match the victim
with a donor.

I wish to warn you about a new crime ring that is
targeting business travellers. This ring is well organized and well
funded, has very skilled personnel and is currently operating in most
major cities around the world and recently very active in Sydney ......
The crime begins when a business traveller goes to a lounge for a drink at
the end of the work day. A person in the bar walks up as they sit alone
and offers to buy them a drink. The last thing the traveller remembers
until they wake up in a hotel room bathtub, their body submerged to
their neck in ice, is sipping that drink. There is a note taped to the
wall instructing them not to move and to call 000. A phone is on the
small table next to the bathtub for them to call. The business traveller
calls 000 who have been quite familiar with this crime. The business
traveller is instructed by the 000 operator to very slowly and carefully
reach behind them and feel there is a tube protruding from the back. The
business traveller finds the tube and answers 'YES'. The 000 operator
tells them to remain still, having already sent paramedics to help. The
operator knows that both of the traveller's kidneys had been harvested.

This is not a scam or out of science fiction novel. It is real. It is
documented and confirmable. If you travel or someone close to you
travels, please be careful.

Sadly, this is very true. My friend's husband is a Sydney EMT and they have received alerts regarding this crime ring. It is to be taken very seriously. The daughter of a friend
of a fire-fighter had this happen to her. Skilled doctors are performing
these crimes! (which, by the way have been highly noted in the Brisbane
area). Additionally, the military has received alerts regarding this.

I REALLY WANT AS MANY PEOPLE TO SEE THIS AS POSSIBLE
SO PLEASE BOUNCE THIS TO WHOEVER YOU CAN.

Another story.....
I was approached yesterday afternoon around 3.30 pm in the Coles Parking
lot at Miranda by two males, asking what kind of perfume I was wearing.
Then they asked if I'd like to sample some fabulous scent they were
willing to sell me at a very reasonable rate.
I probably would have agreed had I not received an email some weeks go, warning of this scam. The men continued to stand between parked cars, I guess to wait for
someone else to hit on. I stopped a lady going towards them, I pointed
at them and told her about how I was sent an email at work about someone
walking up to you at the malls, in parking lots, and asking you to sniff
perfume that they are selling at a cheap price.
THIS IS NOT PERFUME - IT IS ETHER!
When you sniff it, you'll pass out and they'll take your wallet, your valuables, and heaven knows what else. If it were not for this email, I probably would have sniffed the 'perfume', but thanks to the generosity of an emailing friend, I was spared whatever might have happened to me, and wanted to do the same for you. These guys hit Sydney and Melbourne 2 weeks ago and now they are doing it in Perth and Queensland ...

IF YOU CAN PASS IT ON TO ALL THE WOMEN YOU KNOW!!!

Children need parents' attention.

The monitor of a class was sent to request my help as a young form three student refused to return to the class when he was found sniffing glue behind one school block. That was 1988 when I was the discipline-teacher of Sekolah Menengah Bakar Arang, the then most notorious school in Sungai Petani for gangsterism. Established just three years ago, there were lots of problems and being discipline-teacher kept me on my toes throughout the day as such a post brings problems from school as well as outside school hours.

One of the problems I encountered were children from families who were too busy with work or family tiffs, separation and divorce.

Returning to the child with his sniffing of glue, I had to approach the child slowly, talking to him from a distance in as quiet and calm a voice as I could muster. I knew I had to portray my concern for him to gain his confidence. There was no reprimand to be given, no demand for him to explain himself or return to class. I just sat down some distance from him, watched him and asked if he was alright. When he did not reply I told him I just wondered how I could help him. Then, I innocently asked him what it was he was holding in his hand. He showed me the small tin of glue. I slid a little closer, took a look at it and asked him what he was doing with it. He did not respond with any any words but merely looked at me as I went on to tell him that if there was any problem I was there to help him. I had to be patient and it took some time before he allowed me to take the tin of glue from him, each time moving just a little bit closer. Then with one hand over his shoulder, I told him I understood how he felt, although I did not as I have never sniffed glue or been high before. Nevertheless, I sat there for a little while longer before I got him to return to his class where i told the form teacher to let him rest at his place.

The next day I had a talk with his parents and told him the problem their child was facing, warning them that that child needed love and understanding more than any accusation or scolding. I told them that if they care for that child they have to give him more attention, know his activities and his friends.

Yes, children can be easily lead astray if there is a lack of attention on the part of the two most important people in their lives, the parents. In fact, as a disciplinarian in that school I learned a lot from those unfortunate children. Most of them went astray to find alternative attention in one form or another. I believe a study into our heroes and villains will lead to one conclusion; they perform all those deeds again and again because of the attention they beget. Even the ordinary man on the street perform whatever they do each day to get the necessary attention from their peers, their colleagues and their friends or whoever they come across.

And attention is least found in problem families where both parents no longer care for the welfare of their homes, both spending less and less time in the home with more and more time away somewhere else. In bigger families, the reduction in attention could be overcome with attention from other loving members of the family but if those other members do not care, hope for proper attention for those children is lost and they have to search for other sources of attention. Be the external sources of attention good or bad is a matter of luck. If the children are lucky they find some sources of attention beneficial, if not it can lead to drugs, theft and all kinds of possible mischief.

Therefore, a happy, loving family is the best place to nourish a growing child. Where there is love, there will always be care and when that is present there must be happiness and a beautiful path towards success in life.

Be wise in displaying your jewels.

If you have a secret that you do not wish to have others get curious about enough to find out more about it, then the least you can do is to make yourself as inconspicuous as possible.

That understanding, unfortunately for her, was not available to her and that was to cost her dearly. It was because of her being too conspicuous that police discovered her secret hiding place for drugs.

According to a report from Harian Metro, a 29 year-old widow has been getting lots of attention from the opposite sex due to her being well- endowed with two very enticing voluptuous breasts. Everything would have been fine, each having his/her own delight; she with the desirable attention and the spectators with the attractive sight or should I say sights, if those conspicuous breasts had not attracted the attention of the police as well and the police had not been just as infallible as any human to give them a more than cursory examination, enough to make the discovery of one breast that little bit larger than the other and are sufficiently curious to want to know what lies beneath, or is it within, to have her exposed to reveal that she had been hiding drugs in her bra. Ha! Drugs! Therein lay the secret of the two delectable breasts.

So, her vanity attracted the wrong attention, leading the curious police to suspect something. To unveil the attraction, they raided her house but found no incriminating evidence but so they had no alternative but to have a closer look at those tantalizing breasts and discover the unlikely drugs worth RM100 hidden in a slit of her bra.

Ladies and inventors, at this point I have a suggestion for all of you: use other non-drug substance within the bra to help those ladies who wish to appear better endowed than the others. (However, I do not mean that ladies with bigger breasts are any more attractive than those with small beautiful equally attractive breasts. You know, one lady who attracts me a lot does not have Dolly Parton sized breasts. Well, it takes all shapes and sizes to make a beautiful world.)

Okay, let us go back to the subject of being conspicuous and inconspicuous. People who are guilty are sometimes more conspicuous because of their guilty conscience. There are those who flourish in the lime-light of attention and so may use outlandish attire or fashion as well as behaviour to become more conspicuous. However, the shy and timid would prefer to stay inconspicuous with their silence and distancing of themselves from any possible attention. There is no right or wrong to either types as it takes all types to make the world a wonderful place.

Attention and love make the difference.

Today, in the star newspaper, was this sad and tragic report of the death of one young twenty-six year old man who was stabbed to death by his own younger twenty-three year old brother as a result of a quarrel.

According to the report, the parents blamed the tragedy on siblings rivalry since childhood.

It seems improbable that such a deadly ending could be possible of their relationship as both the brothers had apparently acquired education above that of the average individual. The elder brother was in his final year of a master degree while the younger sibling hold a diploma in business management.

According to the parents, the quarrels and fights between the two children were over petty issues, probably arising from jealousy and unhappiness.

From the case, parents should be aware that even among siblings, every indication of unhappiness ought to be looked into seriously. So often have I seen parents so slipshod in treating such cases. They consider such happenings as natural and would certainly peter out as the children grow older. The words, 'They are just like that. It's normal for them to behave thus at such an age.' are so frequently heard by parents who believe everything will turn out right as the children grow older.

Perhaps parents ought to read or be taught child psychology where we are told children can become jealous of the fuss and attention given to the new-born baby. If we understand this part of the feeling of the elder child and not neglect the elder child but get him/her involved in the process of giving attention to the new-born, then his jealousy may abate or be defused as the new-born became a part of him/her and not a distraction of the attention he/she had been used to.

Jealousy and sibling rivalry can result from the one-sided appreciation of the siblings by the parents. Well, no two individuals are the same. One may be quicker, smarter, more agile, more capable or more in everything than the other. Parents heap praises on the one who achieve more, obviously. However, parents should always pay just as much attention to the one who seems less capable. Give that less capable child as much love as the capable one. Hug him/her as much as the other. And show as much enthusiasm and heap praise on him or her achievements as they happen no matter how much smaller the achievements are comparatively. In fact, never compare in words as well as in deeds. I believe every child is as beloved as another. If the talents are not seen, they perhaps have not been given the opportunity to emerge yet.

Furthermore, when it comes to ability, our measuring instrument is more often than not, faulty. For example, some are spiritualist and their capabilities may not be so obvious. Capabilities are only obvious when someone is able to excel in matters of education and the arts where there are opportunities to be tested, to have a platform to perform, with talents that can be evaluated with certificates and monetary awards. Capability with handling children and social work for example is not as obvious. Later in life, while working at something else, do the people themselves discover the niche most desirable. Other people may not even realise that these people are talented in such matters.

However, coming back to children, be it obvious or not that they possess certain abilities, parents should always give them all the attention and love possible despite the time constraint in their lives. In a family, which adult have no time constraints?

Are you too handsome for your own good?

A really handsome guy can have problems with loneliness.

What? Did Ai Wei write that right? Sour grapes! That so-so guy could not help but say such things about people who are easily more handsome than him. How can good looks ever be a problem? What nonsense is Ai Wei ranting about?

Excuse me, but what I am going to put onto this page is nothing but the truth. So, please read this true-life story about one of the most handsome men I have ever known.

This guy was born with good height, fantastic looks and a body, if developed properly with weights could look something like Hercules portrayed by the handsome Steve Reeves at one time. (Steve Reeves is one of those enviably handsome actors into whose arms most girls would likely faint into.)

According to what the girls tell me, “One look at him and you’ll fall for him.” Of course, that got me real envious but what could I do. Alas, I was born just me. Being me, no girl would say that of me. Okay, forget it. After all, despite everything I had my fair share of girls. So, I am not complaining.

You would have thought such a guy, as I thought so too, would easily land one beautiful gal who would just adore his presence and pamper him to her heart’s delight. Unfortunately, that was not the case. In fact, it could have been if only he had allowed one such gal the chance.

You see, the problem was this guy have always known he was fantastically handsome. His parents and other folks could have constantly commented upon his good looks. Possibly, the girls in school could have chased after him and fawned over him in his younger days. Whatever it was, this realisation of his good looks went to his head. (Parents should never let their children become big-headed. Confident, yes but never big-headed.)

Maybe because of all that attention, his studies was not good. All the attention could have dragged him away from his studies, what with the dates he could easily have. As he found that dating any girl he wanted was easy, he became a playboy, playing the field with ease. And that dragged him away from a good education and possibly knowledge that could have helped him to recognise his 'problems' and put him back on the right path.

This, knowing that he could have his pleasure anywhere anytime, perhaps grew his ego and a kind of superiority complex that caused him to drop some of the best prospective loving partners in his life. Vanity led him to think any beautiful girl, forget those who are less endowed, was his for the taking.

And that was true. He had girls falling head over heels in love with him only to awaken to the fact that, in just a very short while, some other beauty had taken over their place.

Well, when one is young and handsome, that is possible. However, time brings others even as handsome guys along to replace the older guys. As this handsome old guy discovered that those who went after him had settled down to a family life, he also found the younger gals have better looking, more youthful guys to fawn on.

His weakness was his super ego which refused to allow him to accept better although not as good-looking prospects who could have changed his fate from one of loneliness to one of joy and contentment.

Today, he hopes for introductions but his ego still could not accept those who are not so good looking. So, it is not just second or third-rated guys in their forties or fifties who could be lonely.

In fact, there is no such thing as second or third-rated guys. The problem lies with the attitude. If, like this guy, you think you are too good to be true, then you are too good to be true to anybody, so no gal for you. Similarly, if you think you are not good enough, then you just cannot be good enough. If you do not love yourself enough, how can you expect anyone to love you?

So, parents must teach their children to love themselves for the right values in them, not some kind of superficial good looks.

As for me, I was born a little somewhat rugged. (Perhaps, after some weight-lifting and body-building during my younger days.) Nothing really handsome but I loved John Wayne who was even more rugged and girls just liked John Wayne during his time. So, with that attitude on my looks, girls just love me. (Vain! Vain! But that’s the truth. Take a good look at me in one of my earlier posting to view the truth. I just can’t help it. And I thank God for it.)

Interest and Awareness is essential.

The other day, a relative of mine watched the news on television. Oh! How horrible! The previous Prime Minister’s wife is dead. Shocked and unable to contain the news further she told a friend at the morning market.
Later, this relative commented about that Prime Minister’s wife’s death to her husband. Upon hearing that, the husband told her she had heard the news wrongly. It was the previous Prime Minister’s wife’s mother who had died.
“Oh, my gosh!” she exclaimed. “Are you sure about that?” she enquired.
“Of course, I’m sure of what I heard,” the husband told her.
“Then what I told my friend is wrong. How embarrassing!” she put her hands to her head in despair.

This relative has the habit of listening to unattentively to the news. That was not the first time she got the news wrong. The trouble is that she did not give the news reader her full attention. And she is always so eager to tell others of what she had heard that she often beat the news reader to the end of the particular news. As a result she often jumps to her own conclusion before the news reader could finish the sentence on the news.

There are two possibilities when such a consequence can come about. The person could be not fully aware of what had been said or she had already speeded ahead and formed her own conclusions. Both can lead to getting wrong facts or knowledge.

When it comes to children, they ought to be made to realize that attention in class is important. Discuss with them the reason some people seem to remember or understand things easier or better than others although most children in the class are of almost the same average intelligence. In fact many clever scientists and great intelligent people were once deemed to be weak in their studies.

So, we have to get our children to realise that the difference lie in the interest of the persons in their studies. When the people are interested, they pay greater attention to what is being said. They are aware of what is being explained. Awareness of the logic of the subject brings greater understanding and understanding needs no great memory to retain the subject in the mind. And certainly, they can never get their facts wrong.

However, it is possible that we need to study or understand certain things which are of no interest to us. However, this does not means we cannot generate interest in the topic. Yes, when interest does not come naturally, we have to generate it for our own benefit.

To say that was easy. Right. But, it is easy. All we need to generate that interest is to realize the importance of that particular subject in us, in our future, in our lives. Take for example, the English Language. Since we know it is the international language important enough to make the difference between a good career in an international corporation and a position in a small local company, it would be a great incentive to have us put in effort to master it. That’s right. To generate interest that does not come naturally, there has to be a sufficiently good incentive. So, look for such an incentive.

Sometimes, the incentive may not be direct. It can come through wanting to impress somebody. Although indirect, it serves its purpose, sometimes even better than a direct incentive. A girlfriend can be the push for a guy to do even better just as a boyfriend can be such an energetic force to propel a girl to excellence. Overcoming fate-placed obstacles could be other possible incentives. Dale Carnegie, Napolean Hill, Norman Vincent Peale and many others who have looked into the success stories of many successful people and found that fate-dealt poverty, loss of a beloved and even failures to be incentives to strive for a successful future.

So, incentives are actually what is created by our own mind. For example, if we are born poor, we could use that unfortunate situation as an excuse to remain excusably poor. However, we could also refuse to accept the situation and put in every possible effort to effect change. ( In my previous postings, I have at least one student who did just that. Last week, as the regional manager of a big corporation, he came to my house to invite me to his wedding. He is what I would call a self-made man. He did it despite the odds.)

Enough said about incentives.. With incentives, interest is ever present. Studying of any subject becomes easy.

When a child pays attention in class, there is very little need for revision or tuition. There is more time for rest and recreation, resulting in better development of the child. We have a happier child with greater achievement when there is full attention in class. The self-esteem is also great as teachers like such children not only for their attention but also for the response to questions and results in examination.

As can be seen from the relative’s inattentiveness to the news, paying attention becomes a habit and such habits are beneficial in every aspect of our lives.

We all need it!

You can only talk when there is some listening, right? Otherwise, you must be wrong somewhere in the head. You would not be striving hard for good grades in a certificate unless you know someone is going to look at it someday. We would not be choosing suitable, beautiful clothes if we do not want others to see us in them. We comb our hair in a certain fashion; we colour our lips strikingly red; we wear all kinds of jewellery and ornaments just to make ourselves attractive so that others will pay attention to us.

You have got it! We need attention! So does our children. Many of the tantrums children throw are messages to parents to heed them and their needs.

I know a child who would throw a tantrum each time his younger brother took his toys to play. Since this elder son has a lot of toys to play with, why does he exhibit such a behavior? Actually, it is a message to the parents. He feels he has been neglected since the arrival of the younger child. Almost all attention has been given to the younger one. So, the only way to attract the parents to himself is to make some noise. The fact is each time he throws a tantrum, he does get attention although it is a negative type. This attention reinforces the action of throwing tantrums. Soon, such behavior becomes his habit. So, the parents claim it is his nature to be so bad temper. This judgement on the part of the parents fixes the behavior and the child himself believes he is that type of person. Even his parents say so, so how can he change?

Sometimes pupils misbehave in the classroom and teachers think of a thousand and one reasons but seldom get the right answer to the problem.

Pupils are usually problematic because they are bored with the teaching or the work in the classroom. There are at least two reasons they could be bored.

One of them is that they are unable to follow the lesson due to their low proficiency level in the language medium. They cannot understand what the teacher is explaining. Even if it is in their mother tongue, the level is too high. Without being able to understand, how interested can the child be?

Imagine yourself being put into a Sanskrit class when your proficiency of that language is either low or zero! You would be merely hearing sounds that carry no meaning. Can you sit and listen quietly for forty minutes, an hour, a day, five days a week, about forty weeks a year without giving up? I can tell you this; it is torture! So, how can we blame the child for not paying attention?

In fact, when I taught English and my class consisted of students who had very low proficiency, I always told the senior English Language Officer and the Principal that I would not be following the syllabus. They were usually worried about what the Federal Inspectorates would say. I told them I would be responsible if there were any complains. I did not wish to follow a syllabus which would not help my students. I would go down to their level and from there help them to reach whatever level they were capable of. We must always teach from the known to the unknown.

Unless the above is done, the students in a weak class have no way out of the boredom. As frustration at not learning anything sets in and nobody paying attention to their plight, mischief or some kind of distraction created by them would be the only other way out. They have to create the mischief or die of boredom. The mischief is a kind of attention drawn to their problem. And it works for them, in a negative manner, as the teacher gives them some attention in the process of scolding them.

Unfortunately, this kind of attention can never bring students and teachers together. It only leads to greater misunderstanding of the children’s needs and result in more antagonism between the two parties.

Understand the cause of the mischief and have the courage to fulfill their needs. That is the duty of every parent or leader.

"Aarrrgh....! Look! I need it!" What?

It is important to give our children positive attention. Such attention will bring us closer to our children.

A child is so lovable.

It's so easy to love babies. Giving them sufficent attention should not be a problem. Yet, many problems arise in this world because someone neglected the children or did not give them the right attention.
