Do some people truly believe in God or is joining a religion and the act of praying to God merely being part of a life-style for them. I question thus because i often read of people questioning the existence of God in other religions and performing deeds which indicate they do not believe or know God. They even talk of a need to defend God or a religion.
Below is my response to someone who tals of comparing religion and defending one as if anyone can talk of the the superiority of any one religion or having the capability to defend it. Quote: Wan Salim said it was only Dr Zakir’s views on comparative religion and his methods in defending Islam that had drawn the ire of those who dared not face him. Unquote. He was commenting on Dr. Zakir's talks on Islam.
When it comes to religion, what is there to compare? You believe in a particular religion. That's fine for everyone but you do not have to compare. When you do, are you trying to say someone else's belief is not right or more inferior to yours?. Now, that is not fine for those others, as beliefs are personal. All matured people would understand that personal religious belief must never be questioned. And what is there to defend when it comes to Islam. Is not Islam already accepted by the world as a religion? Does not people respect God? We, or rather most, people believe in God. It's only where, for an individual, God is to be found, in which religion? Well, that depends upon the individual's belief which everyone ought to respect just as we expect others to respect our own beliefs. I personally have a strong belief in God's existence. Yes, one Almighty God. Almighty God because he is all powerful, capable of divinity, unlike mere mortals. If we believe in Almighty God, would we not understand He could be all knowing, everywhere present, everything capable of? Even being able to be present anywhere, anyhow or in any form? Would He not have known that different mortals can have different views and so choose different religions to accommodate differing thoughts? Would He not be present for everyone, no matter where, no matter how in whichever mortals' religion? Would He; remember He is All Almighty; be capable of being everywhere, no matter what your beliefs are, to love and cherish all the mortals whom he had created. If He had wanted just one religion, just one belief and no other, would He not have been capable of creating human minds to have just that instead of allowing so many religions to exist in our world? Would our Almighty God have been capable of that? Certainly, it could have been. That is if we truly believe in God, in His divine understanding, in His divine presence and in His divine capability. Do you truly believe in Almighty God? Does God and religion need anyone to defend?

Who were the first people to reach the Malayan shores?
Today, the 15th of July, 2019, I read an article from Malay Mail, Malaysia and the comments that followed. One comment was so interesting with supporting evidence, giving us a place to verify the information given, that I decided to have it as a posting here. Certain derogating words have been deleted as I feel they were not necessary. Below is the comment:
The Truth Revealed (with evidence)! In June 1998, the government of Malaysia hired a team of experts from all over the world to gather in Malaysia for a research project to compliment the history studies that we undertook in our secondary school. The objective of the research is simply: 1. To find proof and evidence that show the Malays were the origins of Malaysia and they were the first race and religion that landed in Malaysia 2. To further strengthen their claims, first they need to find the graveyards of Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Lekiu and others.. to show the existence of their pioneers. 3. The Batu Bersurat in Terengganu, reveals that the islamic religion landed in Malaysia more than a hundred years ago which further strengthened their claims! Since the year 1999 (if I'm not mistaken) or year 2000, do they study about HANG TUAH anymore ? Why is that popular subject GONE ? Missing in action ? Or evidence reveals something else that caused the government to stop the syllabus and HIDE the TRUTH ? Here are the Evidences of the findings by the team of scientists, archaeologist, historian and other technical staff from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, Yemen & Russia. The evidence are: 1) They finally found the graveyards of Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat and others, their skeletons had been analyzed and samples of DNA taken with the results showing: Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Lekiu and mates were NOT MALAY !! They were CHINESE origins (Islamic) from China !!! Why were they here in Malacca? If you go back in history, you would know that they were on a mission to protect the MALAY Sultanate from the frequent attacks by the Kingdom of SIAM (Thailand). So Hang Tuah was not a Malay hero ! They were the protectors of Parameswara (who was from INDONESIA) who landed in Malacca and claimed that the land belonged to him! Hang Tuah and friends were all from China, they were assigned to the Malacca Sultanate because Parameswara requested the Ming Dynasty Emperor for protection! Hence, the rich historical heritage of the Babas & Nyonyas were closely linked to the Seven Voyages to the Western Ocean by Admiral Zheng He who incidentally was a Chinese Muslim himself! In fact the Babas and Nyonyas were one of the earliest descendants from the aristocratic lineage of Admiral Zheng He from China. These Chinese have interbred with the Parameswara's people and till today are still more Chinese than Malay. They follow Chinese customs, wear "baju kurung with kerosang", speaks bazaar Malay language and Hokkien and they eat pork. They co-celebrate every religion existing in this country such as Holy Mary and Jesus, Hindu god like the "hantu tetek" and even the Islamic "keramat". This is the best integrated race and the earliest ever formed in Malaysia but yet they are non bumiputras even though they are one of the earliest....earlier than the so called Malays! That's why the Hang Tuah series in history is MISSING from the Malaysian SEJARAH today! It's shameful and they destroyed all facts on Hang Tuah just to save their pride!! Note: Remember Princess Hang Li Poh? - All surname 'HANG' (or ANG in Hokkien). 2) The researchers hired by the government found the oldest tombstones (graveyard) in Kelantan in year 2000. Surprisingly, the tombstones were at least 900 years old ! Older than the so-called Batu Bersurat. And the interesting thing was that they all belonged to the CHINESE! Having landed first in Malacca doesn't mean Malay is the first in Malaysia because during that time, the road was too long or undeveloped for them to reach or see the other side of the coast where the Chinese had landed much earlier. If you want the hard evidence of what the truth of the Research reveals, please write to The Federal Association of Archaeology & Research of Michigan, USA. This is a good reason to remind the Bumiputras NOT to ask the Chinese or Indians to go back to their Motherlands because the evidence had shown that Malays were NOT the original people of Malaysia ! The Truth Revealed (with evidence) and anthropologists have yet to ascertain if there was indeed a Malay race !
Infact the original people of Malaya are the Orang Asli, most of whom are still living in clearings in the jungles, living a nomadic life.

A Supreme Race?
Why sre mortal beings still so ignorant despite education easily avilable throughout the world?
For any race to consider it supreme, it must be very much better than all the rest of mankind, every individual ofthat race. Should there be even just one individual who is lower in intelligence, less capable than anyone of the human race, weaker financially, spiritually, emotionally or physically, then that race is just like any other race throughout the world, no more supreme than the worst of us.
Yet, in this 21st century, certain portions of the Malays, especially the politicians, claim supremacy over any other race, if not throughout the world, at least in Malaysia. Yet, in the very same breath, these proponents of supremacy demand special rights for their race, using its weaker financial situation as its excuse to be given better opportunities to improve themselves financially.
Looks like these people have not or forgotten that in history, the Japanese and the Germans had once considered themselves the supreme races and had wanted to conquer the world so that the so-called less sipreme beings of humankind would be under their rule. The world proved them wrong. And in 2018, the supremacy group of politicians under UMNO was defeaated in that year's election, to be replaced with less arrogant, more inclusive politicians from another coalition.
Even with their failure to be supreme, they continued with their superiority rhetoric on race and religion. They refused to realise that the only truly supreme being is God, that all humans are mere mortals with the possibility of mental and physical weaknesses. Some even believe God needs them to defend Him Some even talk as if there are God, putting forth words and thoughts with the implication it comes from God.
They do not understand that all humans are created or born equal. Born into this world where the idea of power has caused some humans to divide this world into countries and states, divided by immaginary lines on land, they came to be known as people of different races. So, the idea of countries, boundaries, states and race are just human creations. It has nothing to do with skin colour either as can be seen from India and its people. The Indians from the cooler North are fair-skinned while the Indians from the hotter South are darker, mainly due to the difference in climate.
It is never God's intention to divide the human race. Neither was it His intention to have a particular race more superior than any other. It is more of the lust for power that cause this desire for supremacy. We are are humans created with different talents to fulfill the needs of this world. Let us all face this reality.

The joy of friendshp
Every thing may come and go but friendship remains imbedded in our hearts forever. End of May, 2019 brought the arrival of old friends who took the trouble to look up to little old guy. Foo Fook Yuen came all the way from Penang to the sleeping hollow of Sungai Petani, Kedah to see Lee Heng Chye, Lee Ah Ba and I. Apparently, they were college-mates. As for me I got to know Fook Yuen and Ah Bah in Kodiang, Kedah. When Fook Yuen contacted me that morning, I dropped all appointments I dropped all the appointments had made to be with this olde beloved friend whom I missed since it was more than a few years I saw him in Penang.. (I had promised someone a massage, assistance to do something on a computer and given voluntary assistance to a brain-injured child. I have been practising qi kung and learning as much as I could on brain plasticity.)
Soon, I was out to meet Heng chye and Fook Yuen at a coffee-shop for breakfast, a second breakfast for me as I had one earlier. Althoough a simple breakfast, we spent some time in the shop and, to avoid, the discomfort we could be giving the proprietor of the shop, we ordered extra drinks. Wow! We were loaded with too much drinks. Eventually, we decided to call on Sifu Wong Kiew Kit, my sifu and long-time child-hood friend whom I had introduced to Fook Yuen many years back. There, we were really lucky to find sifu not outstation in other parts of the world. With his usual enthusiastic greeting, he invited us in and we enjoyed old times together.
Then, we hoped to try the ferry ride on the Merbok River but was unfortunately to have the rowers gone off early as it was still their fasting month. So, we just explored the jetty, took some photos and headed back to Sungai Petani to see Lee Ah Ba.After exchanging views and news, we took along Ah Ba and his wife for dinner.
For me, the day passed too quickly. So quickly that I remembered my intention to attend to matters at my son's shop at 5.00 pm. only when it was 8.00 pm. Well, it was one of those happiest days of my life. Thank you, Foo Fook Yuen.

Struck down by a fruit!
Struck down by a fruit!
Sometimes, we think we are in the best of health, with every morning exercise, proper home-cooked meals most of the time, sufficient rest and sleep and daily qi practice; not apain in any joint, 120/70 almost blood pressure, no diabetes no headache attacks or fever for years; and we grow too confident.
Well, I grow too cocksure and when a durian (a fruit well known for its ability to get the heat in one's body up) comes along as a gift from a friend, I took the whole fruit at one sitting and drank too little water along with it. After all, what can a durian fruit do to me? Of course, I was too wll stuffed and there was there was a little discomfort. Well, that was expected.
However, what i did not expect was a bout of diarrhea and vomiting that took me six days to recover, Through the night of June 23, 2019 from 1.30 am to 6.00 am. I was running to and from from my bed to either the sink or the toilet to throw up or spill out pieces of durian flesh drained from my body. By then I was so dehydrated, I had to drink but whatever liquid went in flowed out a minute or two later. My breathing became heavier as my lungs seem to fight for breath and I tried to do heavy breathing to overcome it to no avail. The situation was to last until Friday evening. I was dizzy from weakness and insufficient intake of food. although things seem to be improving, though a bit too slow for me.
So, on 26 June, a Wednesday afternoon, i took my problem to a doctor. The doctor was more worried than me and told me to go back for a review the very next day should things no improve. Of course, this stubborn old fool did not go for further check-up, even though the tide had not turned then. I was fortunate to prove myself right when, on Friday evening, the liquid expelling mechanism in the body stopped completely. After that it was fine and life was beautiful once again.
For record purposes, I found that I had been given Hyoscine N Butylbromide, Diphenoxylate & Atropine Sulphate, Metoclopramide Hcl and Paracetamol tables. I know paracetamol is for the fever. one of the others is for lessening the activity of the esophagus.
So, I have learned not to be a glutton even though I am capable of eating a lot. Ao, I am not obese and the amount has always been right for the numerous activities each day. Just that, when a food is termed to be too 'heaty' or 'cooling' I just have to be careful in the amount consumed.

Oh, God. part 2
At the age of ten, I was struck by an illness that almost cost me my life. I lost my appetite and eating certain food made the sickness even worse. Gradually, my parents were losing hope of a cure. Not that they did not try. I was taken from one doctor to another but to no avail. Was it small-pox or chicken-pox? I cannot remember what it was. My poor mother told me not to die as people might think they did not give me enough attention. At that age I was not even worried about death.
We then rented one of the rooms in a big house with a big compound in the front portion. The landlord was wealthy as there was constantly a number of lorries parked there. In one corner of that compound was a tall, big tree where, at its roots was a soil-filled red container, with a number of joss-sticks sticking up from its top. It was placed between two of the tree's huge roots. Here, people from the surrounding area would come to pray to something. Was it a deity or some kind of spirit? Well, I was too young to know.
It was to this place that my parents took me to on one morning. In their despair of finding a cure for my sickness, they place all their hopes on whatever was there. I suppose anyone in their predicament would have done such an act. They bought some fruits, a pair of candles and some joss-sticks to offer whatever was there at the foot of that tree. Their desire for my recovery was sincere and great enough to place all their hopes there. They prayed very hard, asking me to join them in praying for my life. And believe it or not, (Well, I am still strong and healthy at the age of seventy-two.) I slowly but gradually recovered. I took no new batch of medicine but my appetite and strength returned little by little. After a few months of absence from school, I was eventually able to return to school to the surprise of my form-teacher and my class-mates.
A miraculous recovery without the use of any medicine, it definitely was. When I related this to a friend who belonged to a certain religion, he told me it was the work of the devil. Was it the work of the devil? If it was the devil's work, he must have been a good devil, a godly devil. He saved my life, didn't he? Was the devil trying to convince me too join him? To be his disciple? No, it cannot be when that so-called devil was so godly in his deed. He saved me. He gave hope to my despairing parents. Instead of being devilishly delighted with the sadness and hopelessness of my folks and I, he brought in rays of happiness.
So, I believe it is the work of almighty God. If religious people, people who belong to a religion and who believe in God, almighty God, who can reach us in His powerful, mysterious ways, then all God-believing people like me, should believe He has the power to assist us in whatever way necessary. As He is almighty, there is no place he cannot be. His love and blessings will be available no matter the situation. I believe all is possible where God is concerned. No obstacle is too great for Him. Such obstacles only exist in the mind of mortal men who think it is impossible.for this or that to happen. Thank God for that

Oh, God!, part 1
Since young I have believed in the existence of God. I would not have been alive today or be doing what interested me most today if god had not directed me towards it.
When I was young, I was sickly and weak. One such health problem was rheumatic arthritis which attacked me at a most unexpected age, at least for most of the folks at that time, when I was merely six years old. They claimed it was an old person's sickness and here was me, too young to be struck by this kind of pain in the joints. Once it became so painful and the swelling as so bad that I could not walk. I was living in Caunter Hall, Penang at that time. Not far from this Chinese village where my parents rented part of an upper portion of a wooden was a temple where, neighbours told my parents, was a medium who had miraculously cured many who seek her help. So, I was taken there one afternoon when the medium was in a trance. The medium told my parents to leave me on the floor just outside that temple. I must admit her looks and prancing behaviour in no way gave me any confidence that she was going to be my saviour. Run? I could not even raise myself off the floor. The rheumatic pain was that bad. If i could even walk I would have broken any walking record to disappear from the scene. Helpless, I was. Before I could even cry for help, the huge lady medium was stepping over my feet. But she was fast and soon the torture was over. What a relief! Next, she ordered me to stand up and walk. Well, i did just that. there was certainly no need for a repeated instruction. And i did walk! I walked home all by myself. Unbelievable? For everyone else, perhaps. For me, it happened. What cured me? Was it fear? Was it the work of God? I did not really know. But, looking back after a number of other incidents, I believe it is the work of God through that medium. Why not? After all, we do know that God, no matter where you religious belief lie, is all almighty. He does his will, sometimes through mysterious ways.
Of course, there are those who say that it is the work of the devil, to convince me of its power. If it is really the work of the devil, then these people have to admit that the devil does do good and at least once relieved a poor, painful innocent little boy from agonizing pain. Anyone would have to admit that was a good deed for any devil, even if this little boy could have been a wee bit naughty during that young age. No, I did not become any devil's disciple, as anyone who truly knows me can confirm. So, I would like to think that God, in His mercy, gave this boy, me, a chance to build his health, become more active in activities good for the immune system and the opportunity to be a state gymnastic coach when I became a teacher until my retirement at age fifty-six in 2002. For all this, I have God to thank. Thoughts of Him is constantly with me to this day and the reason for this will be revealed in the next few remembrances of His presence in my life.

Great people we still have.
The article below is taken from the Malaysian Insight, a Malaysian online news portal, as it tells of great people who ought to be examples for many leaders in Malaysia. Many of our leaders, unfortunately, do not have the qualities that the bilal of a surau, Sapno Tukijo, a hotel manager, Subri Hashim, and the Christians, the Christians for Peace and Harmony in Malaysia movement have shown after Penang suffered its worst flood. Well, read on, my friends and know what happened.
The Malaysian Insight
News
Sapno Tukijo’s action, however, also painted him as a villain among Muslims, for the bilal had allowed non-Muslims to seek refuge in the surau.
On social media, he was lauded but others vilified him for allowing non-Muslims – some of whom were shirtless and in shorts – into the surau.
“I don’t care about the attacks. The people who criticised me were not at the scene. If they were there, they might have done the same thing,” said Sapno.
“We were experiencing a very bad flood, worse than any before. The water was rising at 2am when people were sleeping,” he said, recalling the storm on November 4 and 5.
“If another disaster happens, I will do it again,” Sapno told The Malaysian Insight last night.
Honoured by Christians
The Taman Free School surau bilal was among those honoured by the Christians for Peace and Harmony in Malaysia movement (CPHM) at its interfaith Christmas dinner at G Hotel yesterday, for helping Penang flood victims irrespective of race, religion and background.
Sapno, who unwittingly found fame for doing what came naturally to him, said he was touched by the gesture.
“I feel thankful. We are all servants of God,” he said.
His newfound fame also earned him the permanent residency he had long applied for.
“I had been waiting for it for 24 years. I just got it last week at the immigration office in Putrajaya,” said the soft-spoken man who has lived in Malaysia for 30 years.
Unsung heroes
Others who also helped the flood victims included hotel manager Subri Hashim, who ferried the victims to the surau.
The Taman Free School resident was on his way to the surau when he saw a Chinese man calling out for help.
“I was on a boat when I saw a Chinese man calling for help. He said that there were old people trapped in their homes in the neighbourhood behind the surau.
“We paddled there and saw people signalling for help with torch lights. Almost every home had elderly people. Some were so frail they had trouble moving.
“We made several trips, as the boat could take only five to six people at a time,” he told The Malaysian Insight.
That day, the double-storey surau was all they had with the floodwaters rising to their necks, Subri said.
“There was nowhere else to go. So, we put everyone on the top floor of the surau.”
Mosques, suraus are open to all
Taman Free School surau treasurer Abd Nasir Salleh said the place of worship became a shelter for about five days until all the flood victims left.
The welfare department, he said, sent officers, doctors and nurses to care for the victims, especially the elderly.
“A Malay family nearby also helped by making drinks for the victims. When people come to our mosques or surau in peace and with good intentions, we have to take care of them,” he said.
Nasir said there was no rule dictating who could enter or not enter mosques or surau.
“Our houses of worship are for all. They are centres for the community and places of charity. Holding prayers or religious events is only one of its many functions.”
Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Mohd Rashid Hasnon, who was the guest of honour at the CPHM event, thanked Sapno and the others for showing good example, adding that they had practised what Islam preached.
CPHM chairman Lee Min Choon said those who had aided flood victims around Penang had shown basic goodness.
“Our religions teach us to serve humanity. We cannot do it without working together, so we must learn to do it despite our differences,” he said.
Global Unity Network (Unity) president Shah Kirit Kakulal Govindji said the various faiths had doctrinal differences but their people should focus on their shared similarities.
“Like in the Quran and Bible, we can find many similarities. Why don’t we agree in areas where we can, and agree to disagree where we cannot?
“It will be good to start by showing tolerance towards each other, before we move on to acceptance and respect.”
Leading by example
CPHM and Unity have been working together for several years, organising events that bring religious leaders from different communities to sit together, and make friends as a way of countering the rising polarisation in Malaysia.
CPHM’s northern region representative Pastor Samuel Teh said while politicians might create situations to gain mileage and serve their own agendas, groups like theirs are organising their “grassroots movement” to bring the communities together and encourage all to work towards a common good.
“It should be like how Sapno and others have broken the barrier and mentality that the surau was exclusively for Muslims through their acts of kindness,” he said.
Shah Kirit said problems among the different races and religions are often caused by misconceptions and prejudices.
“It all depends on how we resolve problems. As community leaders, we can have dialogues among ourselves, and then bring the message to the people we speak to in our respective communities.
“Once the people are educated, there will be no more room for hatred,” he said, adding that politicians’ attempts to fan racial and religious sentiments will also no longer work.
“If we cannot change upwards, then we change downwards,” Shah Kirit said. – December 19, 2017.

All kinds to make a world
Humans are created with a mind to think better than other living things. Although we may look alike in many ways, there are also differences among us. with a head, a body and four limbs, able to walk upright and able to think of everything there is to be thought of, humans are able to mix among ourselves and communicate in one way or another. Of course, there is the difference of skin and hair colour, bodily structures, cultures, beliefs and languages used but in many ways we are similar.
Unfortunately, it is usually the differences that can bring about problems. Race can bring unity or disunity. People of the same race usually band together probably for safety reasons. Of course, they normally can communicate better than a particular language alrady in use amongst them. Herd mentality may be good but it can also drive off people of another race or bring up suspicions ofactions unfamiliar to a certain group. And that is where enmity begins.
Then there is religion. Religion comes from the belief of God. In the known religions, the holy book has taught humans the good values. Yet, many who belong to one of the great religions in our world have committed sins that the holy book forbid. Could it be the result of humans usurping the power of God, declaring what they believe in to be the truth, and people of other faiths not obeying God's words? So, from here arose the differing thoughts or beliefs of people of the same religion. And with that we have different sects or groups insisting that theirs is the way, the only route to God that all others must follow. This even leads to killing to achieve what is their God's way. Why? Do they realise that when they kill an innocent believer of God they go against Him? And to think that humans are given brains superior to other creatures so as to be able to think. Is that why people say "to err is human"/
Then, we have science-minded humans who need proof of the existence of God to believe there is such an all almighty power. Rightly, or wrongly, they are atheists. Well, they were given the right to choose and they decided that unless proof is given to them, their belief is right. This group usually do not impose their belief on others and so do not create any problems for others. However, God will accept them as long as they do good and are a contributing group in society. (Here, I indicate my belief in God as events in my life lead me to believe a powerful force has given me guidance and strength.) Whatever you belief in, let it be, for it takes all kinds to make a world.

Here's a true animal lover.
Today, in Malaysians kini, I read of a young lady, Norashikin Ahmad, with the guts to reveal her love for animals such as dogs despite being in a religion that does not favour its members being near them, more so if there is any touching.. For her, love overcomes all barriers. She certainly has my greatest admiration. Even when she is ostracized by the member of the mosque near her home, she continues with what she loves best. That is something very few humans in this world have the courage to carry on. She certainly has a heart of gold, one of God's most beautiful creations!
All the photographs below are copied from Malaysians kini. The article comes from its writer, Annabelle Lee.
MALAYSIANS KINI
Norashikin Ahmad, 24, has been rescuing dogs and cats ever since 2014
when she got her first job. She houses 120 cats and 50 dogs in a
purpose-built shelter next to her home in Alor Gajah, Malacca. On top of
running the shelter, she works full-time, helps out with her mother’s
food business and has to travel to the mosque in the next village to
pray as she is not welcome at the one right outside her house.
We
first meet Shikin (as she is commonly known) at the Alor Gajah morning
market where she works at her mother’s food stall on Sundays.
After the market, we follow her to a small village off the main road. There are several buildings on her property but none that look, or smell, like an animal shelter.
Shiro, a tiny scrappy-looking shih tzu, straggles out to greet us.
Shikin throws Shiro a rubber ball as she points to a maroon-coloured building in front of us, “that’s my shelter!” .

Autistic boy wonder in
Penang gets letter from Obama
BY LOOI

Published:
22 August 2014
Gifted 11-year-old Delwin Cheah with the letter
from US President Barack Obama. – The Malaysian Insider pic by Hasnoor Hussain,
August 22, 2014.It is not everyday a boy receives a letter from the President
of the United States. Let alone if he is an 11-year-old who lives halfway
across the globe.
But
Penang boy Delwin Cheah Wien Loong did, when he received a letter from
President Barack Obama.
Delwin is
no ordinary boy. He is the Malaysia Book of Records' "Youngest Artist To
Hold Solo Visual Art Exhibition (Autism Spectrum Disorder)" and the United
States' Record Setter's "World Youngest Savant Artist (ASD) to hold a Solo
Exhibition".
Delwin is
autistic but his achievements had previously earned him and his family the
chance to meet and rub shoulders with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and
his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Now, he
has a letter from Obama, thanking him for his "gift", a book of his
drawings titled "I Can Draw".
In the
July 14 letter, Obama wrote that "the world needs young people like you
who are trying hard in school, serving your community, and dreaming big
dreams".
"We
face many challenges, but with your help, we can build on what we have already
achieved and forge a brighter tomorrow," the US president wrote.
Delwin's
parents Lawrence Cheah and Erina Law said they never expected a letter from the
president and were surprised to learn that Obama had recently received the
book.
"The
book came out two years ago when Delwin had his first art exhibition," she
said.
Her
husband Lawrence said they had no idea who gave the book to Obama.
"We
are also trying to find out who is this person," he said.
The
couple and their son have been in the news many times because of the boy's
talent in drawing.
Banking
on what Delwin can do, the proud parents have been trying to reach out to other
parents with autistic children, reminding them never to give up.
Often,
they try to inspire others with Delwin's story, from the time they discovered
he had Asperger's Disorder at age five but also an IQ of 114, making him the
world's youngest Savant artist today.
Lawrence
and his wife advocate early detection and early intervention, and they stress
on the importance of teaching and training children with autism from young to
help them develop their talents.
"Once
you have the diagnosis, you can only accept (that your child has) autism and
start seeing to your child's training and education to develop his or her
hidden talents," he said, stressing that waiting for the child to grow up
to be taught would be too late.
He said
Delwin had started drawing when he was just over three years old, and even then
he had been drawing wild animals especially Safari animals.
"I
sent Delwin to art classes after we discovered that he liked drawing. The
teacher came to me and said my son was the worst student and he can never be an
artist.
"Delwin
could not take instructions. He just drew whatever that came to him. So the
teacher did not know how to deal with a student like that.
"But
we never gave up and we kept encouraging him to develop his skills and his art.
Delwin is where he is now because we persevered together with him as a
team," Lawrence said.
When it
comes to art, Delwin is not like kids his age, who would normally use pencils
to draw so they could easily rub off mistakes. Delwin uses pens and draws his
animals so well there are no mistakes.
Law said
it is important to understand how autistic children learn and do things
differently, and be supportive instead of regarding them as disabled.
Delwin,
she said, does not hold a disabled person's card and goes to a normal school
with normal schoolmates.
He is
enrolled in Lighthouse Academy Penang, a private school with an American
syllabus in Tanjung Bungah that uses a homeschooling approach with its
students.
"Delwin
attends school like other children his age. He just learns differently,"
she said.
The
family's hardwork with Delwin and their belief in his abilities paid off when
the boy began making waves in recent years.
On
Christmas Day 2011, Delwin was recognised by Stroke of Genius, an American
organisation that educates and empowers people with Autism Spectrum Disorders
(ASD) by promoting their abilities.
In April
2012, he took part in the organisation's art exhibition at the United Nations
Plaza in New York and in February last year, he had his first solo show.
In April
last year, Delwin made the Malaysia Book of Records as the youngest artist to
hold a solo visual art exhibition with 60 art pieces.
Later in
November, he was officially named the world's youngest savant artist to hold an
exhibition by the Record Setter.
In April
this year, he again made his mark with the Malaysia Book of Records for winning
the "Most Outstanding Personality (Art Category)" award.
The
latest feather on Delwin's cap is of course the letter he received from the
White House.
Savant
syndrome is a condition in which a person with a mental disability, such as an
autism spectrum disorder, demonstrates profound and prodigious capacities or
abilities far in excess of what would be considered normal.
Some
people with Savant syndrome demonstrate exceptional skills in areas like rapid
calculation, art, memory and musical ability.
Asperger
syndrome or Asperger disorder (AD) is an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that is
characterised by significant difficulties in social interaction, non-verbal
communication, restricted and repetitive patterns of behaviour and interests.
People
with Asperger's do not have a learning disability and most go through
mainstream school, pursue higher education and enter employment, and some would
excel in areas like mathematics, science, language, memory and concentration. –

Wise words from a Johore prince.
First, it is only proper that people know that Johore is one of the states in Malaysia.
And when somebody's wife shook the hands of the prince from Johore, there were so many negative comments, he had no alternative but to comment on them.
Below is the prince's comment which was published on Malaysiakini on 9 July, 2016.
As i find his words has so much wisdom in them, I hope to share them with anyone interested .
COMMENT I was informed by our club Johor Darul Takzim FC's website that there were a lot of negative comments on how JDT player Mohd Safiq Rahim's wife shook hands with me.
There are a few individuals who are trying to be an ustaz or the state mufti on Facebook.
To me, when it comes to religion we are nothing compared to the Almighty. Therefore only Allah can judge us and not human beings.
Only Allah can decide whether our prayers are accepted or not. Only God can judge whether we go to heaven or hell.
We are simply human beings and therefore should not judge others especially on petty things. Islam is about love and respect and not about judging others especially when it involves hatred.
The problem is, too many are trying to be smarter than the Quran.
Although I am born to be a ruler, I am also just a human being. I have no rights to judge whether Allah will accept you or otherwise. Unless you rape people or hurt children, kill people, steal or take from the needy.
Here is some honesty that some of you hypocrites are not used to because too many of you are used to pretentious people in your life here.
I am a Muslim and the holy religion of Islam is much bigger than me. I must say I am not an expert when it comes to Islam but one thing I believe is that Allah will bless you, if you have a good heart, kind, honest, helping one another and respecting others.
Who's to say which path leads to heaven?
There are many school of thoughts in Islam. Who are we to say which one of us will go to heaven? Who are we to say which school of thoughts is the right Islam.
As for me, I prefer to stick with what I have been taught since I was young and to abide by the Holy Quran.
I'm also going to stick to my customs and traditions of a Malay because I'm born Malay.
If there are some of you who wish to be an Arab and practice Arab culture, and do not wish to follow our Malay custom and tradition that is up to you. At least I'm real and not a hypocrite and the people of Johor know who their ruler is.
I don't pretend to wear a jubah but behind closed doors be addicted to drugs and neither am I a gambling junkie. I do not steal from my people and I always speak the truth.
I have the courage to speak what others dare not because of their own personal interest and with me, what you see is what you get.
I always strive to be as real and transparent as I can with my people because as I've mentioned numerous times its better to be hated for being honest and real than be loved and be a fake and a hypocrite.

Education is key
I respect your choice even though I'm amazed why we Malaysians, especially the Malays, are so easily influenced. The answer is simple. Education.
Education allows us to see the world differently. Education gives you the knowledge to abide by your principles and policies in life.
I have no rights to tell you what to believe or follow and all I have is my honest, humble opinion that we shouldn't try to be smarter than the Quran. All we need to know are the basics.
To my fellow Johoreans - be Muslim, not extremist. Being Muslim is to respect one another. Johor has its own tradition and culture and the same goes to other states. We are all different - different in our interpretations of the teachings of Islam, different in religion and different in ethnicity.
Pointing fingers and judging each other will not make this country a better place. We shouldn't have any place in our heart for hatred.
Do you know how we can make this country a better place and live in harmony? Simple, educate yourself, and respect one another.
Long live Johor, may Allah protect the sultan and the state of Johor.

A lady all religious leaders ought to learn from.
Today I read of an incredible Sarawakian lady by the name of Zabariah Matali who used a Christian center with a cross on the wall for an interfaith 'buka puasa' (opening of fast) event. Defending her usage of a Christian center with a cross on its wall, Zabariah said that there was nothing offending as the cross is just a religious symbol of the place just as the Islamic sayings on the wall of her own Islamic center would not have been offending to members of other faiths should they come to her center.
To me, she is truly God's messenger of peace and unity for all humans no matter what religion they belong to. After all, God is the creator of all humans, no matter the race or religion. Would God wish any harm or disrespect to any of his people, no matter what name humans call their God. For me, God has always been God and I have no name for Him as He certainly has been here before any of us. When man created a name for God, it is obvious that they use their own language and as they wanted it.
Fortunately for the world there comes a lady who can see clearly that we should praise and pray to God and have respect for Him no matter how we name Him. The world would certainly be a better world if all religious leaders were to follow the example set by the Sarawakian lady.
It is certainly time for religious leaders to set aside their own human beliefs and ideas so as to return to the true path of God. This is obviously necessary as we see religions throughout the world go separate ways to form their own groups with differences which are less than holy and can bring calamities to the world as they want others to believe only in their own philosophies and human beliefs. Let us return to the true teachings of God without changing or misinterpreting them to suit our own desires, be they political or human egos.

Health involves exercise, rest and diet
I lost a friend a week ago and it was not because he was not health conscious. This friend knew he had to exercise to keep physically fit. He would cycle long distances, sometimes into a neighbouring country to enjoy the scenes and improve his health.
Once, about three or four years ago, he invited me to partner him in a canoe race along the Merbok River with the competition ending at Pantai Merderka (Merdeka Beach). For me it was the first time I had ever paddled anything in a river and, knowing that, he got us involved in taking a boat from Pantai Merdeka to the starting point about five days before the competition. That was exhilarating but extremely tiring. Fortunately, our muscles recovered sufficiently to find us ready to the race.
This friend likes to travel around on his bicycle and it was good exercise for him. His stamina was good. His rest was usually enough, being able to sleep soundly through the night each day. However, he forgot about limiting the amount of certain foods in his diet until it was a little bit too late. His diet consists of too much fata and oils and this lead to high blood pressure. It was only when he discovered that his cholesterol level and blood pressure were too high that he decided to eat less fats and oils and take oats for breakfast.
Unfortunately, his arteries were already narrowing and one morning, while he was driving somewhere, someone honed loudly as a car overtook his and that caused a heart-attack from which he lost his life.
Perhaps, if he had looked into his diet earlier, he could be alive today. Whatever it is, let us check ourselves and confirm we have enough exercise, rest and a healthy diet so that we may move into our future with greater assurance of good health.Let us give good health first priority.

Of course, there is hope for brain injured children
A few days ago, I wrote about having hope where some doctors said there were none. I was talking about brain injured children. Somehow I got interested in brain injury and the kind of help available to such children. Down's children is fairly commonly seen. There are children with hyperactive brains and there are those who are mentally retarded. As a teacher I have seen some of them in schools. As for brain damaged, autistic cerebral-palsied and brain-damaged children we seldom see them but that is not to say that they do not exist.
Having gone through some of the books, watched the you-tube videos and read about the well known people involved in neuroplasticity, I know there is hope for brain injured children and adults, no matter the cause. In my previous posting I have written about Glenn Doman and his Institute For The Achievement Of Human Potential which developed the therapies for brain injured children through their understanding of the cause of the limitations of brain injured children and the stages of development of the human child. Besides Doman, there is Anat Baniel who had worked with Feldenkrais and developed a method for getting the brain to register movements to overcome limitations imposed by brain injuries. Her book 'Kids Beyond Limits' is very informative on the techniques she uses. Her success in this field has been well known to many who needed her assistance.
Feldenkrain himself had trained practitioners to help such brain injured children too. To know what such practitioners do, go to you-tube where you can see movements they use to assist the children.
Besides Anat Baneil, there are many other practitioners trained by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais. One of the practitioners I frequently visit on you-tube is Jeremy Kriauss whose method is clear and interesting to viewers. His explanations on his approach, The Jeremy Kriauss Approach, is very clear on how he achieves the aims he desires.
For further information on neuroplasticity, two excellent books by Norman Doidge are Brain's Way of Healing and The Brain That Changes Itself. They contain information that can lead you not only to solutions for brain injured children but also for well childrens greater development and adultswith brain problems such as stroke and possibly prevention of Alzhemer's.
Well, hope the above information can be of help to someone..
